Recap of Spring in the Valley 2010: April 25, 2010

This year's theme was Transportation - the ways plants, animals and humans get around!  We had a great line up of speakers, activities, and fun for people of all ages.  Visitors learned about everything from Monarch butterfly migration to the changing forest landscape to the SMART philosophy of building automobiles.

Kids (and kid-like adults) planted prairie grass with a slingshot, took horse-drawn wagon rides, and shopped for goodies in the local vendor market. Everyone engaged in conversations with naturalists, college students who rode their bicycles from Minneapolis to Silkesnas (and who are bicycling advocates), and with each other to envision the future of transportation in the area.

And that was not all!  Click here for the flyer listing all of the event information.

Recap of Spring in the Valley 2009: April 26, 2009

Our annual event took a “Parade of Healthy Homes” theme.  It rained nearly non-stop throughout the afternoon, so we hosted our speakers in the Visitor Center to a full house.  We learned about what makes for a truly luxury home – for people and for other earth inhabitants, with our speakers highlighting:

o        Wildlife Neighborhoods (coyotes, black bears & birds)

o        Healthy Human Homes (LEED Construction, healthy indoor environments, & nature-friendly landscaping)

A Native American tipi was open for visitors and in-between showers, many walked into the prairie to visit the tipi and learn how native people lived 'green.' It was a lovely place to be, complete with a warm fire inside!

Our local market vendors enjoyed the day as well, selling honey, maple syrup & candies, natural skin and bath products, bread, and more.

Below are some pictures and a flyer from the 2009 event.

We look forward to seeing YOU next year!
